Karen Rice

Karen M. Rice, Associate Professor of Music at Winston-Salem State University, holds a D.M.A. and an M.M. from UNC Greensboro and a B.A. in Piano Performance from Eastern Mennonite University. As an active solo and collaborative pianist and researcher, she has performed with the Wilmington Symphony and the Montgomery Symphony Orchestra and has presented at the College Music Society National Conference in Québec City and at the North Carolina Music Teachers Association Conference. Dr. Rice has held previous positions at UNC Wilmington and NC A&T State University, and she has served as Piano Chair at the Music Academy of NC. Her research interests include the piano music of composer Henry Martin (b. 1950) we well as issues of Intersectionality as it relates to music, race, and gender.
