Dr. Steve Barnhart
Percussion
Author of the Greenwood Press publication, Percussionists: A Biographical Dictionary, Dr. Steve Barnhart taught at the University of Wyoming, Washburn and Baker Universities in Kansas, the University of Central Arkansas, and in the Lawrence, Kansas public schools. He served with the U.S. Army Europe Band in Heidelberg, Germany and has appeared as a clinician and/or performer in the U.S., Bolivia, Europe, and Taiwan, as well as, with the Arkansas, Kansas City, and North Carolina Symphonies, among others. His performance experience includes popular, ethnic, and classical genres. Barnhart studied conga drumming in Cuba, Indian tabla drumming at UCLA, and holds the DMA degree from the University of Kansas, MM from North Texas State University, and BME from Texas Tech University. He currently resides in North Carolina where he performs with the Piedmont Wind Symphony, the NC Brass Band, and subs with the Winston-Salem Symphony occasionally. Barnhart also taught at Cannon Music Camp for 30 summers at Appalachian State University.
