Colin Choat
Percussion, principal
Colin Choat is the Assistant Director of Bands at West Forsyth High School in Clemmons, NC. Prior to teaching at West Forsyth, he was the Director of Bands at Mount Tabor High School (2015-2019) and Director of Bands at Paisley IB Magnet School (2012-2015). In 2018, Colin was awarded the American School Band Directors Association “Encore Award,” presented to directors who have demonstrated excellence within their first seven years of teaching. In the same year, he was named the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools “Band Director of the Year.”
Colin received his bachelor’s degree in percussion performance from the University of Alabama where he studied with Mr. Larry Mathis. He received his master’s degree from Appalachian State University where he studied with Dr. Rob Falvo and Dr. Scott Meister. He is an alumnus of the Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps and Music City Mystique Indoor Percussion Ensemble. Additionally, Colin has performed with a wide variety of ensembles including choral groups, brass quintets, wind ensembles, orchestras, and many other chamber ensembles in Alabama, Texas, and North Carolina.
