Brent Harvey

Raised in Apple Valley, Minnesota, Brent Harvey presently serves as Associate Professor of Low Brass and Music Theory at Winston-Salem State University, as well as Adjunct Professor of Tuba-Euphonium at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and Wake Forest University. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Minnesota, and Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Brent has performed and recorded nationally and internationally as a soloist, as well as with the Minnesota Orchestra, Virginia Symphony Orchestra, Catania International Festival Orchestra in Italy, Charleston and Long Bay Symphony Orchestras (SC), the Carolina Philharmonic, Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle, Durham, Fayetteville, Greensboro, and Winston-Salem Symphony Orchestras (NC), National Wind Ensemble in Carnegie Hall (NY), Pine Mountain Festival Orchestra (MI), Fountain City Brass Band (KS) in the United Kingdom and Western Europe, North Carolina Brass Band, Piedmont Wind Symphony, Ardmore Brass Quintet, Tubas In The Sun Tuba Quartet, da Capo Brass Quintet, Basses Covered Tuba Band, among others.

Brent has presented, adjudicated, and performed annually at multiple Southeast and Northeast Regional Tuba-Euphonium Conferences, US Army Tuba-Euphonium Conferences, and International Tuba-Euphonium Conferences in affiliation with the International Tuba-Euphonium Association (ITEA). In addition, Harvey is a Chief Warrant Officer in the U.S. Army, North Carolina National Guard, and served as the Commander and Conductor of the 440th Army Band stationed in Raleigh. Most recently, he served as faculty member and personnel manager of the YOA Orchestra of the Americas in their 2017 summer tour through Chile, Argentina, and Brazil.

 

On a lighter, non-musical note, he was named “Patron of the Week” at Old Town Draught House in Greensboro and First Street Draught House in Winton-Salem and has been a three-time recipient since. In his free time, Brent enjoys golf, fantasy football, college sports, craft beer, Cobra Kai, anything Star Wars, and building LEGOs.
